Snacks to Help with Loneliness

"Pray and ask God for help....."

sermonsnacks.jpg1 Timothy 5:4-6 (New International Version)

 But if a widow has children or grandchildren, these should learn first of all to put their religion into practice by caring for their own family and so repaying their parents and grandparents, for this is pleasing to God. 5The widow who is really in need and left all alone puts her hope in God and continues night and day to pray and to ask God for help. 6But the widow who lives for pleasure is dead even while she lives.

Often time we thing we are bothering our loved ones when we ask for help, or just to come over and spend some time with us.  As parents and grandparents we should teach our children and grandchildren to respect and honor their elders by visiting and spending time with them.  Our elders have lots of things to share with us that can save us a lot of hurt and a lot of mistakes.  Don't be afraid to talk to your children and grand children about spending time with you.  If you truly have no one....pray and ask God to bring someone into your life that you can share and spend time with.  God will be faithful to your prayer.

"Fight!"

sermonsnacks.jpg1 Timothy 6:12 (New International Version)

12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
When loneliness strikes, our first instinct is to begin to try and figure out why we are lonely?   Sounds good....   the only problem is we only think on things that don't encourage us.  Sometimes, most of the time we have to fight to defeat what has  come into our life.  Decide that you are going to fight to combat your loneliness.   I can say with all faith, that if you can begin to pray, read just a little of God's word, and listen real close;  God will give you direction, He will open doors.  As you take on an attitude of not accepting your present state and fighting the good fight for what God wants you to be, you will see God do wonderful things in your life.   We have to fight to defeat the things that come against us.  Take hold of the life God has called you to.    God Bless,  Don and Karen

"According to His promise..."

sermonsnacks.jpgPsalm 119:116-117 (NIV)

 116 Sustain me according to your promise, and I will live;
       do not let my hopes be dashed.

 117 Uphold me, and I will be delivered;
       I will always have regard for your decrees.

Throughout scripture and time God has never not fulfilled a promise to his children.  In times of loneliness for whatever reason, it is normal to miss that person or persons.  But God can provide the comfort you need, through his word, through talking to him and most importantly listening to him.  He will guide you to new people, places and things that he has placed there to bless you.  Be faithful to God and your fellowship with him and he will bless you.   God Bless,  Don and Karen

"Jesus alone on Calvary..."

sermonsnacks.jpgMark 15:34 (The Message)

 33-34 At noon the sky became extremely dark. The darkness lasted three hours. At three o'clock, Jesus groaned out of the depths, crying loudly, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?" which means, "My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?"
Even Jesus on Calvary was alone.  He felt in his human spirit that he has been deserted by his father.  But he knew in his Godly spirit that he was going to be with his father again.   But because of Calvary and the cross you never need to be alone.  We have been told from a young age that "Jesus is always with us".   It is more true than we really understand. Stop and talk to Him from your heart, tell Him your every pain and hurt, your needs and hopes and dreams.  Then let Him talk and minister to you.  He will speak to you.  Thank Him and be obedient to all He says to you in your spirit and through His word.   God Bless,  Don and Karen

"The time will come..."

sermonsnacks.jpgPsalm 102:13 (NASB)

You will arise and have compassion of Zion; for it is time to be gracious to her, for the appointed time has come.

Take charge of your life, use it to glorify God where you are.  Your life today is a gift from God.  The appointed time has come.     God Bless,   Don and Karen

"God is present..."

sermonsnacks.jpgZephaniah 3:16-17 (The Message)

 16-17 Jerusalem will be told:
   "Don't be afraid.
Dear Zion,
   don't despair.
Your God is present among you,
   a strong Warrior there to save you.
Happy to have you back, he'll calm you with his love
   and delight you with his songs.
As God spoke to the Children of Israel, He is speaking to you with His word, He really will calm you with His love.   It is His promise to you.   We accept it with you in Jesus name.  Amen.   Don and Karen

"God knows your affliction...."

sermonsnacks.jpgPsalm 31:7 (New International Version)

 7 I will be glad and rejoice in your love,
       for you saw my affliction
       and knew the anguish of my soul.
It is hard when loneliness strikes us for whatever reason.  God knew and tells us in his word that it is not good for "man" to be alone.  Even God wanted to walk in the Garden and fellowship with Adam and Eve.   And so it is because he knows loneliness and what it brings that he watches over us, communes with us, speaks to us through his word and his Holy Spirit, the still small voice of God is always ready to minister to us in every situation.  He uses others to help and encourage us, he uses uses us to also make sure no one is alone.  Let God speak to you as he chooses, be ready to listen and be ready to be used.   God Bless,  Don and Karen

"Ready access.."

sermonsnacks.jpgHebrews 4:15-16 (The Message)

 14-16 Now that we know what we have—Jesus, this great High Priest with ready access to God—let's not let it slip through our fingers. We don't have a priest who is out of touch with our reality. He's been through weakness and testing, experienced it all—all but the sin. So let's walk right up to him and get what he is so ready to give. Take the mercy, accept the help.
In the midst of lonely times it is easy to forget that we do have access to Jesus, who has ready access to God the Father. Because we let that truth slip through our fingers, the devil gets into our minds and tells us.  "God doesn't even know your alive....you have no friends..."   Jesus was probably lonely many times when he was on earth.  But every time, he knew to go to his father in heaven.  It takes practice and consistency to get used to the fact and truth that Jesus is always right there with us.  That God is ready to minister to every need in Jesus name.  The "truth" is...we just need to "Take his mercy and accept the help..."  God Bless, Don and Karen

"The Lord Looked down..."

sermonsnacks.jpgPsalm 102:7&17-20 (NIV)

 7 I lie awake; I have become
       like a bird alone on a roof.

17 He will respond to the prayer of the destitute;
       he will not despise their plea.

 18 Let this be written for a future generation,
       that a people not yet created may praise the LORD :

 19 "The LORD looked down from his sanctuary on high,
       from heaven he viewed the earth,

 20 to hear the groans of the prisoners
       and release those condemned to death."

For generations in the bible and through time, people have been alone and suffered from loneliness.  They thought all had abandoned them.  But time and time again when they called on God the Father, he answered them, and heard there cry.  That you may praise the Lord, you need to know He hears and sees you.  He releases you.  When you begin to focus on your relationship with God;  He then will see to it that you have relationships with others.  God Bless.  Don and Karen

"Lie down in peace..."

sermonsnacks.jpgPsalm 4:8 (NIV)

I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone. O Lord make me dwell in safety.

When we are lonely often what is the hardest thing to find is peace.  Our minds are racing, sometimes looking for answers, but more often just filled with questions.  "Why this and why that?"  Like David we have to decide we will lie down in peace, not because we still don't maybe have questions, but because we know only the Lord can give us peace and only He can keep us in safety.  When we realize and accept this, peace comes.   Rest in God's peace, tell Him the desires of your heart and then listen in peace.  God Bless, Don and Karen

" That I might show my power..."

sermonsnacks.jpgExodus 9:16 (New International Version)

16 But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.

Over thousands of years God has raised people up from dire circumstances, where no one thought they would recover....but time and time again, God did as he promised.  Just as he raised Moses up to lead the children of Israel to the promised land and raised up Noah to lead his family to safety, even as he was being mocked by all that looked on as he made the ark ready.  God showed his power to the world through them.  Let God raise you up today, listen to him and act on his direction.  It may seem impossible, but with God nothing is impossible...   God bless,  Don and Karen

"Coming together for good.."

sermonsnacks.jpgPhilippians 4:6-7 (The Message)

 6-7Don't fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God's wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It's wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.

When we feel alone usually the first thing we begin to do is worry.  Let God know what has you worried, thank Him for being there to listen and before you know it, the calm will come.  But you/we have to be willing first to tell Him, second to thank Him and maybe most importantly to leave it with Him and accept the calm that He sends.  Leave it in God's hands, He is able to do far and exceedingly above all that we ask or think.  Let Him today.  God Bless,  Don and Karen

"Every Word is a Miracle Word..."

sermonsnacks.jpgPsalm 119: 129-136

129-136 Every word you give me is a miracle word—
      how could I help but obey?
   Break open your words, let the light shine out,
      let ordinary people see the meaning.
   Mouth open and panting,
      I wanted your commands more than anything.
   Turn my way, look kindly on me,
      as you always do to those who personally love you.
   Steady my steps with your Word of promise
      so nothing malign gets the better of me.
   Rescue me from the grip of bad men and women
      so I can live life your way.
   Smile on me, your servant;
      teach me the right way to live.
   I cry rivers of tears
      because nobody's living by your book!

Just think about those "words" every word of God, is a miracle "Word".   God spoke the heavens and earth and stars and all else into existence.  I challenge you to go to Gods' Word, to let it speak to you about whatever it is that is on your heart, and as we agree with you for that, that you seek; God will do a miracle in your life.   God Bless,   Don and Karen

"God did it for David and He will for you.."

sermonsnacks.jpgPsalm 142 (NIV)

A maskil of David. When he was in the cave. A prayer.

 1 I cry aloud to the LORD;
       I lift up my voice to the LORD for mercy.

 2 I pour out my complaint before him;
       before him I tell my trouble.

 3 When my spirit grows faint within me,
       it is you who know my way.
       In the path where I walk
       men have hidden a snare for me.

 4 Look to my right and see;
       no one is concerned for me.
       I have no refuge;
       no one cares for my life.

 5 I cry to you, O LORD;
       I say, "You are my refuge,
       my portion in the land of the living."

 6 Listen to my cry,
       for I am in desperate need;
       rescue me from those who pursue me,
       for they are too strong for me.

 7 Set me free from my prison,
       that I may praise your name.
       Then the righteous will gather about me
       because of your goodness to me.

And David was a man after God's own heart He tells us in His word......Maybe one reason was, David was never afraid to pray to and praise God.   The loneliness may seem to much for you but it is not for God.  God is able...to do far and exceedingly above all that we ask or think....   God Bless,  Don and Karen

"Lonely and afflicted?"

sermonsnacks.jpgPsalm 25:15-17 (New International Version)

 15 My eyes are ever on the LORD,  for only he will release my feet from the snare. 16 Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted. 17 The troubles of my heart have multiplied; free me from my anguish.

Even David, a "Man after God's own heart" felt alone...but just maybe the reason he was "a man after God's own heart" was that David, when he felt alone, and he was ensnared in the worst of situations and his heart was troubled....he knew to keep his eyes on God and talk to God about how he was feeling.  He confided in his heavenly Father........and his Father was there.   Today, just talk to God,  I know He will listen.    God Bless,   Don

"Tell the World What God is doing!"

sermonsnacks.jpgPsalm 73:25-26 (The Message)

25-28 You're all I want in heaven! You're all I want on earth! When my skin sags and my bones get brittle,
  God is rock-firm and faithful. Look! Those who left you are falling apart! Deserters, they'll never be heard from again.
   But I'm in the very presence of God—  oh, how refreshing it is!  I've made Lord God my home.
  God, I'm telling the world what you do!

In the midst of loneliness and when it seems all who love us have forgotten about us it is often a good time to reflect on just being in the presence of God.  We often take for grantide the one who loves us most and our closest friend, counselor and Master.....Jesus Himself.  Learn to be content in the presence of God, share with family and loved ones the things you feel and learn while in these special times.  It will encourage them and you.  Tell the world what God is doing in and for you!    God Bless you today!    Don and Karen

"Why?"

sermonsnacks.jpg"Why are thou cast down, O my soul?  And why are thou disquieted in me?  Hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance." Psalms 42:5

God is asking you right now........"Why are you cast down?  Why are you feeling this way?"  Actually the person writing this Psalm (Probably David)  was asking himself that question.  He didn't really know why he was feeling the way he was, but he felt uneasy, maybe lonely and deserted.   But then he remember!   I will hope in God!  and I will praise God.   In our own minds this seems to simple to really work, but I have discovered one thing in life.  How we think and what we think about greatly effects the way we feel.   To the point of effecting even our physical health.  God wants you to have faith and hope in Him.  To really have faith that He is in control of every minute in your life.  The times when you are alone are sometimes arranged by God himself to pay attention to Him, to listen to what He has to say to us.  To just be in His presence.  Have faith in God, Thank Him always......think on His very presence.         God Bless you greatly today!    Don
